Honorable Ministers

Respective Delegates

Ladies and Gentlemen

It is of great honor to me today to be welcoming to the second meeting of the Bureau of the Ministers of Housing and Urban Development of Asia Pacific countries in Amman, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Honorable guest

Ladies and gentlemen

Countries of the world are facing the challenges of rapid urbanization. Urbanization … the beautiful picture attracting more and more the poor … to the refined life expected and dreamt of. The dream cracked and faced by the complications of real life … leading to the unaccepted and desirable modes of living…

As living conditions are tremendously deteriorating, leaders of the universe have displayed commitment to improve the living conditions of their fellow citizens…. Shelter being a major pillar of the socio economic challenges and expectations…

Honorable guest

Ladies and gentlemen

Jordan has long been facing tremendous obstacles in solving and providing adequate shelter and living conditions to the citizens. The turbulence of the region has long affected it's development and progress in it's shelter policies… However, our leadership has always been enforcing and prompting solutions and policies to ensure a decent environmentally acceptable life to all especially the poor and lower income groups.

His Majesty King Abdullah the II has recently initiated a new Royal grant, whereby housing would be provided to around 33 thousand households within the five coming years. The government is now working on the setup and action plan to fulfill His Majesty's will and reach out to the majority of the needy.

Several Royal grants and government initiatives have proceeded since last decade … several projects targeted the very poor with housing units of almost free cost.. Others provided housing at minimal costs…. Financial programs were also addressed… through subsidizing housing loans directed to the real needy.

Ladies and gentlemen

Allow me on behalf of my country to express my appreciation to the government of The Republic of India for initiating the Asia Pacific Ministerial assembly for Housing and Urban development in 2006. It was an honorable gesture to address the challenges facing our countries and provide a common understanding among our countries of housing and urban issues, and foster partnerships between our governments and stakeholders..

Honorable guest

Ladies and gentlemen

I welcome you again in Jordan…. I wish you a pleasant stay and your meetings a fruitful outcome…
